Pre-service
NTDC, 34 hours, delivered as a hybrid model and completed within 10 weeks; all sessions must be attended.
Ongoing continuing education
A minimum of 15 hours of Continued Parent Development each calendar year, per caregiver, due by 31 December, prorated in the first year by approval month (January to March 15 hours, April to June 10, July to September 5, October to December none). Hours may come from training or from personal growth activities verified in writing by a professional. CPR and first aid certification must be maintained throughout the approval period and those hours count toward the 15.
Renewal term
Every 2 years, and no home may hold more than 24 months of approval.
Kinship difference
Same hours, but pre-service may be completed within 120 days AFTER approval under a waiver of non-safety standards — a timing accommodation, not a reduction.
Conflict notes
Note the mismatch: continuing education runs on the calendar year while approval runs on a two-year cycle. Also note a 2013 copy of the policy circulates widely and imposes caps on online and personal-development hours that the current policy does not — do not use it.
